Privacy policy

We keep this simple: we collect as little as we can, we never sell your data, and you can leave our email list with one click.
1. Who we are
This website (plookapress.com) is run by Plooka Press ("we", "us"). We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact us about anything in this policy at hello@plookapress.com.
2. What we collect and why

We hash IP addresses with a secret key before storing them, so we never store your actual IP address. We do not use advertising trackers, analytics cookies or tracking pixels, and our emails do not track opens.
3. Our email list
- The newsletter box on the free pages form is never pre-ticked. Your download does not depend on ticking it.
- We use double opt-in: after you tick the box we send one email asking you to confirm. Until you confirm, you are not on the list.
- Every email has an unsubscribe link that works in one click, and supports the one-click unsubscribe button in Gmail, Yahoo and Apple Mail. You can also email us.
- When you unsubscribe we keep your email address on a suppression list, marked as unsubscribed, so we never email you again by mistake. Ask us if you want it deleted completely.
- We send emails from Plooka Press only. We never share or sell your address.
4. How long we keep it
- If you only downloaded free pages (no newsletter): we delete your email address 30 days after your last download. Download links expire after 7 days.
- If you joined the newsletter: until you unsubscribe (then as a suppression record, see above).
- If you ticked the box but never confirmed: deleted after 30 days.
- Download statistics are kept without your email address.
5. Who processes your data for us
Our website, database, spam protection (Cloudflare Turnstile) and email sending (Cloudflare Email Service) are provided by Cloudflare, Inc., which acts as our processor. Cloudflare may process data in the United States and other countries; transfers are covered by Cloudflare's data processing addendum, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, and Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension. We may move our email list to a self-hosted newsletter tool in future; if we do, it will run on servers we control and this policy will be updated.
Our books are sold by Amazon. When you buy a book, Amazon's own privacy notice applies; we don't receive your name or address.
6. Cookies
The public website sets no cookies of its own. Cloudflare Turnstile, the spam check on the free pages form, may use strictly necessary cookies or browser storage to tell humans from bots; these don't need consent and aren't used for advertising. Our private admin area uses a login cookie set by Cloudflare Access, only for our own staff.
7. Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, delete or export your data, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw your consent at any time (withdrawing does not affect anything we did before). Email hello@plookapress.com and we'll reply within one month. If you're in the UK and unhappy with how we handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); in the EU, to your local data protection authority. If you are a California resident, you have similar rights to know, delete and correct your data; we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in California law.
8. Children
Some of our books are for children, but this website and our email list are meant for adults. If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian to sign up for you. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13; if you think we have, email us and we'll delete it.
9. Security
Data is stored in Cloudflare's D1 database, encrypted at rest and in transit. Only we can reach the admin area, which is protected by Cloudflare Access.
10. Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your email address, we'll tell subscribers by email first.
